Water crises were listed as a top five risk in its annual Global Risks Perception Survey, according to the World Economic Forum. With the average shower lasting about eight (8) minutes and the average showerhead has a water flow of 2.1 gallons per minute, that would mean consuming water at an average of 16 gallons! One of the ways to conserve water is by adjusting your showering habits and how frequently you shower.

2.     Drive Slower

Lowering your speed limit can actually reduce emissions and increase road safety for us all. This is because the faster we go, the more fuel that is burned as the wind resistance increases. By adhering to the speed limit to save up on your emissions and petrol, you are not only saving lives, the environment but saving up on your wallet too.

3.     Online Banking

Thanks to digital banking, you can now rely on online banking, paperless transactions and e-statements to reduce the use of paper and reduce traveling, therefore limiting the carbon emissions. Not only is it safer for everyone to access statements but be rest assured that you have to move around a lot less to access your financial statements.

4.     Unplug….Literally

As you may have a lot of plugs around the house, “energy phantoms” tend to still happen and add on to your electricity bills when switched off. Protect your energy bills by removing electronics from their power outlets when they are not in use. To make it easier, you can consolidate all your devices that need to be charged in the same power outlet.

5.      Reduce Food Waste

Food waste is one of the biggest wastes in the world, more than 1 billion meals are wasted across the world and nearly 800 million people go hungry, according to a new report by the UN. To curb this ongoing phenomenon, take an inventory of your pantry, fridge and freezer before going to the store to prevent buying more things you don’t need. One of the ways to ensure less food waste is to only buy what you can eat in a week.

See, that wasn't so hard, was it? If you are looking to help the Earth but it requires too much effort, consider these tips in your everyday life and indirectly, you will be minimising your carbon footprint. Small steps lead to bigger impact.
