Is your business NETR ready?

How well prepared is your business to be a part of Malaysia's Renewable Energy (RE) revolution?

By 2050, Malaysia aims to have 70% of its energy needs met through renewable energy (RE) and the path has begun to be charted this year with the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR).

As of 2020, the nation's energy needs were still dependent mostly on fossil fuels, with the total primary energy supply (TPES) breakdown as follows:

With this as our starting point, the path forward will be paved with challenges and tasks that demand our collective efforts, such as synchronising approaches from all facets and stakeholders involved such as RE policies, inter-ministerial collaboration, a constellation of flagship catalyst projects and initiatives, and cooperation and partnerships with businesses.

That’s where Sunview and your business step in. We are in the business of sustainability, for the environment and for your business. With us, your enterprise has an opportunity to tap into several incentives such as lowered energy bills and consumption, tax breaks such as CA and GITA, closing the gap towards the company’s Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) goals and so much more.

Sunview is leading the charge in reshaping the RE landscape with a focus on modernising energy, responsible sourcing, sustainable operations, and empowering the next generation for a brighter and more sustainable future.

Part 1: Modernising Energy

Sunview’s vision is to create a sustainable energy ecosystem with affordable, reliable and green energy. In order to achieve this, we rely on the latest technologies and constantly upgrade our infrastructure. Through both partnerships and strategic alliances, we are able to bring the best the world has to offer straight to our customers.

In recent years, the rise in RE has hit record growth. According to climate and energy organisation Ember in its yearly Global Electricity Review, “Record growth in wind and solar drove the emissions intensity of the world’s electricity to its lowest ever level in 2022”.

The utilisation of power generated from wind turbines and solar panels has surged, marking a remarkable 12% rise from 2021's 10% and 5% in 2015. This notable increase is a clear indication of a robust transition towards RE. This transition not only underscores the escalating embrace of RE but also catalyses a wave of technological breakthroughs in solar power.

A prime illustration of this progress is the recent discovery by researchers at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne. Their breakthrough technology has the potential to elevate solar energy efficiency from the existing 29.4% to an impressive 32.5%, illustrating the promising trajectory of solar power in cost and innovation.

Malaysia receives abundant sunlight in every part of the country, averaging at 4-6 hours of sunshine hours daily. It is unsurprising then that today in Malaysia, solar power is the most cost-effective avenue for businesses that want to venture into RE.

With Sunview, businesses can explore solar energy services that support clean and modernised electricity consumption, energy efficiency, climate resilience, and decarbonisation.

Sunview's offerings, like SunVast, SunValue, SunVertax, and SunVenture allow businesses and homeowners to own and operate their own solar photovoltaic systems, contributing to a greener and more energy-efficient future.

Sustainability Advisory and Energy Analysis

Sunview also provides decarbonisation as a service, aimed at aiding businesses in lowering carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) emissions. Our approach is comprehensive, (leveraging technology, emissions analysis, business insights, and supply chain proficiency to pinpoint areas of impact, devise supplier solutions, and drive substantial gains) fast-tracking decarbonisation for businesses.

Through a thorough energy analysis, Sunview’s technical team will analyse the energy consumption of a company and identify their highest consuming machine or processes as well as the areas in which the business can reduce and optimise utility usage to ensure energy efficiency.

Sunview’s strategy for modernising energy lies in the amalgamation of systems and instruments, and a fusion of diverse technologies.

RE Systems (hardware) building blocks:

The integration of these hardware components creates a symphony of sustainability, fortifying energy grids and lowering carbon footprints.

RE Instruments (software) building blocks:

The integration of software mechanisms like RECs and sustainability initiatives like 17 Shades of Green elevates sustainability efforts into the digital age, amplifying their reach and impact.

This is in line with the Malaysia RE Roadmap (MyRER) of achieving a 31% share of RE in the national energy capacity mix by 2025 as well, which for instance has enabled an industrial park like KHTP to be at the forefront of green energy industrial parks in Malaysia with Sunview’s help.

Operations and Management (O&M) Support for Our Partners

At Sunview, our commitment to sustainability extends beyond installation. We offer continuous assistance in upkeeping solar photovoltaic (PV) panels, aiding clients in fine-tuning energy production and system efficiency throughout the solar panel system’s lifespan.

Take, for instance, the scenario where solar panels accumulate dust or grime, which may lead to declines in energy output, panel longevity, and gradual performance degradation. Maintenance and operation play a pivotal role in solar systems, guaranteeing peak performance, increased energy yield, safety compliance, adherence to warranties and regulations, and ultimately, lowered long-term operating expenses.

Through these efforts, our commitment to modernising energy aligns seamlessly with the objectives of SDG 7, which seeks to provide widespread access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy solutions. By choosing Sunview as your partner in renewable energy, you are not only embracing a cleaner and more sustainable future for your business but also contributing to the global effort to achieve these vital sustainable development goals.

Part 2: Sourcing Responsibly

Ethics and responsibility drive Sunview's approach to sourcing materials. We are a company that prioritises safe and quality products, ensuring our supplies come from ethical, traceable, and resilient supply chains.

Case in point, we opt for Tier 1 Bloomberg Inverter & Solar Panels Suppliers such as Trina, JA Solar, Jinko Solar etc when selecting manufacturers. Which means that our suppliers are bankable, offering the highest quality of products and services, ethical, environmentally-friendly and reliable.

The Bloomberg Tier 1 PV Manufacturers list exclusively showcases manufacturers with their own branding, engaged in financing projects exceeding 1.5MW capacity, and can demonstrate transparency and offer robust data availability.

Partnering with ethical suppliers is of paramount importance for us, ensuring that our supplies are sourced from ethical and responsible channels. Our emphasis on collaborating with ethical suppliers resonates with the spirit of SDG 12. By ensuring our supplies are sourced through ethical and responsible means, Sunview contributes to promoting sustainable patterns of consumption and production.

Part 3: Operating Sustainably

Leading by example, Sunview operates its business with sustainability at its core and we actively work to reduce operational waste.

With ongoing Large Scale Solar (LSS) projects and a focus on green skills development, Sunview showcases how businesses can contribute to mitigating climate change through RE solutions. Our in-house capabilities, including EPCC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Commissioning), ensure an end-to-end solar energy solution while minimising environmental impact.

Sunview’s commitment to longevity goes beyond the surface. Internally, we uphold the same exacting standards of energy management that we advocate for our clients. At the core of our business philosophy is ensuring our clients' complete satisfaction. This assurance rests on meticulous planning, rigorous material assessment, and strategic business prioritisation.

Our actions mirror our words, as evidenced by the installation of solar systems in our own warehouse and showroom. This practice reflects our role as a clean energy provider, demonstrating that the energy we consume internally aligns with our environmentally conscious ethos.

The graph illustrates Sunview's strong emphasis on key factors such as efficient energy management, environmental impact, and responsibilities. Our steadfast commitment to environmental stewardship and efficiency is the cornerstone of our efforts to make a positive ecological impact globally.

Sunview's holistic approach to energy management, environmental impact, and responsibility aligns with the goals and targets of Sustainable Development Goal 11 (SDG 11) – Sustainable Cities and Communities.

SDG 11 aims to make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable. Sunview's commitment to energy efficiency and environmental responsibility directly contributes to these goals. By actively contributing to the creation of sustainable and resilient cities, Sunview plays a pivotal role in advancing the global agenda for sustainable development.

Part 4: Empowering the Next Generation

Nurturing green talents goes hand-in-hand with the expansion of the RE sector. Demand is increasing for green skills with a 27% share of job postings today requiring sustainability skills.

In the last five years alone, the number of Renewables & Environment jobs in the U.S. has increased by 237%, in stark contrast to the 19% increase for Oil & Gas jobs. This is reflective of a global shift towards sustainability skill demand in the workplace.

Globally, the representation of green talent in the workforce has surged from 9.6% in 2015 to 13.3% in 2021, showcasing a consistent annual growth rate of 6% and a cumulative expansion of 38%. This trend mirrors the local landscape, exemplifying the prevailing shift towards sustainability.

Moreover, the UN Environment Programme’s Global Guidance for Education on Green Jobs Report (2021) predicts an addition of approximately 60 million new jobs to the market by 2030 as the transition to a green economy gains momentum.

While closer to home, the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) reported that for the second quarter of 2022, the number of jobs in the semi-skilled category remained dominant in the labour market (at 62.2%), followed by highly-skilled jobs (24.9%), and unskilled jobs (12.9%). To boost Malaysia's competitiveness, the aim is to increase the number of highly-skilled workers to more than 45% by 2030.

At Sunview, we're taking action to meet this goal. We actively seek talents from diverse backgrounds, whether they're technical engineers from other industries or industry expert marketers who are passionate about sustainability, and provide them with the chance to grow with us.
