5 Ways to Appreciate Women at Work Every Day

As we celebrate the achievements and advocate for gender progress this International Women’s Day, we emphasize the importance of increasing awareness and creating an inclusive space for women to thrive in the workplace.

In line with the theme of International Women’s Day 2025 #AccelerateAction, we believe in doing our part to celebrate the success of women, question bias and sharing knowledge and encouragement with others is key.

To start positively impacting women’s advancement, recognizing and appreciating the contributions of women in the workplace not only promotes equality but also strengthens team morale and drives success.

Here are five (5) simple yet impactful ways to show appreciation to the women you work with every day:

1. Acknowledge Achievements

Celebrating women's achievements honours the past, inspires future generations, and promotes inclusivity by showcasing their diverse perspectives and immense potential, according to Careerflow.

When a female team member successfully completes a challenging project, send a congratulatory email or make a public acknowledgment in the next team meeting. Saying, "Great work, [Name]! Your effort and dedication really helped the team succeed" can go a long way.

2. Step Up on the Encouragement

A simple compliment can go a long way in building peer confidence. Compliment her problem-solving skills or creativity. For instance, you might say, "I was really impressed with the innovative approach you took to solving that issue during the presentation. Your ideas are always so fresh!"

3. Support Career Growth

To help women in the workplace succeed, guidance, advocacy and growth are essential, according to Forbes.

If a female colleague expresses interest in advancing her career, offer to connect her with a mentor in a leadership position. You could also suggest relevant workshops or certifications, like, "I know this leadership training would be perfect for you if you're looking to expand your skillset."

4. Create Equal Opportunities

To achieve greater gender inclusivity, create space for women to be heard in the workplace, whether it’s the board room or just an everyday meeting.

Ensure women are considered for high-visibility projects and leadership roles. For instance, if you’re organizing a key meeting or task force, ensure a balanced representation by saying, "Let’s invite [Name] to lead this project, given her expertise and experience in this area."

During meetings, ensure women are given equal time to speak. You might say, "Let’s hear from [Name]—she's been working closely on this and has some valuable insights to share." This helps ensure everyone’s ideas are heard and valued.

5. Support Work-Life Balance

If a team member has an important family event, respect her need to take time off. You could say, "We understand the importance of family. Take the time you need and we’ll support you. If you need help covering anything, just let me know!"

Conclusion

By taking small yet meaningful steps at the workplace by connecting, appreciating and uplifting the women we work with, we create a stronger, more collaborative and successful team. Let’s continue to celebrate achievements, advocate for equal opportunities and #AccelerateAction towards a more inclusive future.
